When people think about safety in the drilling industry, personal protective equipment and on-site briefings usually come to mind first. But a real HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) culture begins much earlier — at the project planning stage: geological risk assessment, equipment selection, crew training levels, and emergency scenarios prepared well in advance.
A "zero incident" target is not a slogan — it is a concrete methodology: possible hazards are listed for every task, each hazard's likelihood and consequence is assessed, and risks are then eliminated, controlled or mitigated. This workflow — risk assessment → control measures → training → observation — repeats every day, on every shift.
During operations, daily safety briefings, regular equipment inspection, and the "stop, think, act" principle — the right of anyone to halt work when something feels wrong — are the culture's everyday expression. Crew members genuinely knowing that right will be honoured is what turns accountability from a formal document into real behaviour.
Finally, every incident — major or minor — is reviewed, and the lessons feed back into the planning stage of the next project, closing the loop. East West Drilling's mission statement names an incident-free workplace as a priority alongside reliable service to its clients.
